Cocobolo Pen Blanks
Characteristics: This exotic and imported hardwood has heartwood that varies from rich red to an attractive variegated appearance of yellow, orange, black and red streaks. Upon exposure the heartwood turns to mellow orange red. The grain is irregular and also straight. Luster is low and texture is medium fine. Cocobolo is hard, heavy, strong, oily to the touch and very durable.
Common Uses: Cocobolo is used in tool handles - small trinkets - veneers - inlay - musical instruments - jewelry boxes - canes - joinery - turnery - brush backs and cutlery handles.
Working Properties: Cocobolo works well with hand and power tools. Cutting edges must be kept sharp. Pre-bore for fasteners. The wood can be brought to an excellent finish, but Cocobolo is difficult to glue.
