Figured Maple Turning Stock

Characteristics: Figured Maple is a domestic hardwood. Our figured maples are a mix of curly figure and some quilted pieces. The sapwood is mostly a white creamy color, but some darker heartwood can be found. The wavy or curly grains produce "fiddle back" figure and sometimes a "black mottled" figure. These boards are some of the nicest pieces you will ever see.

Common Uses: Figured Maples are used in every aspect of wood working. These boards are prized and treasured for their appearance. Used for musical instruments - furniture - veneers - cabinetry - boxes - flooring and many other projects.

Working Properties: This wood is great for all kinds of turnery, works well with sharp tools and adheres well with glue. It must be pre-bored for nails and screws. Figured Maple takes stains and polish well. This tough wood has a tendency to burn during end grain cuts.
