Goncalo Alves
Characteristics: This exotic and imported hardwood is light golden-brown to reddish-brown with blackish-brown streaks and spots similar to rosewood. The grain is irregular and interlocked with alternating layers of hard and soft material. The wood has medium texture and luster and is hard and heavy. Goncalo Alves is very durable.
Common Uses: Goncalo Alves is used in boat building - furniture - cabinetry - flooring - veneer and knife handles.
Working Properties: Very difficult to work. Tools must be kept sharp. Pre-boring is necessary. It screws well, glues easily and finishes with a high natural polish. It turns well.
