Characteristics: Tamboti is a rare and beautiful wood. The heartwood color is dark to light chocolate. The sapwood, with its lightly yellowish color gives a nice contrast. Texture is fine and even with a straight grain. Quite often it is well figured. The wood is tough and heavy. It is very durable and highly resistant to insects and fungi

Common Uses: Turnery - carving - inlay and furniture.

Working Properties: Not an easy wood to work with hand tools but it is carved. With sharp cutting edges the lumber can be worked well. Pre-bore for fasteners. A pleasure to turners. Take care to avoid exposure to dust. To some people, Tamboti is a skin irritant.
