Sausage Software HotDog PageWiz Characteristics: Thuya Burl, also called Citron Burl or Thyine Wood is perhaps one of the most sought after exotic burls today. These burls are formed on the tree’s roots and require extensive digging to extract them. The burl’s wood color varies considerably. It is reddish-tan darkening to a black hue to a golden brown to an orange-red. The grain is interlocked, contorted, hard and full of knots. Extremely figured and single pieces can be found exhibiting multi-grain patterns. The figure in Thuya Burl looks somewhat like Redwood Burl but Thuya is much denser. Our Thuya Burl is cut into square and rectangular blanks. The sizes vary. We will pick pieces as close as possible to your request. Due to dimensions and rarity, all burl blanks are green unless specified.
Common Uses: Exquisite turnery - decorative veneers - boxes - veneered furniture and marquetry.
Working Properties: Thuya Burl (like all burls) require special care and sharp tools. This burl can be cut, milled and turned satisfactorily. Sand with a fine grit paper. (1200-grit) It glues well and polishes the same.
