Wild Pear Turning Stock
Sausage Software HotDog PageWiz Characteristics: Wild Pear is an exotic and imported hardwood that is yellowy-brown, heavy, strong, very tough and cross-grained. It makes a very interesting bowl. It’s color and figure combine to make unique attractive turned pieces. Because the tree naturally twists as it grows, the lumber is usually small. This works out just fine for woodworkers.
Common Uses: Wild Pear is used in North America mainly for turnery and some carving. However, where the tree grows there are some other very interesting uses. Culturally, the tree’s blossoms are mixed with honey, the hearts of Namaqua Doves and portions of Moles to make a potent love potion. Numerous medicinal uses have been recorded concerning infusions of the tree’s bark. For example, people with heart palpitations, intestinal ulceration, stomach ailments, nausea and fever are treated with the saps and oils from the tree. The tree’s roots are boiled and used as a tonic to treat colic, rheumatism and venereal disease.
